Alerts

Hear about the churn spike on the day it starts

Finding out about a bad week when you open the dashboard on Monday is finding out four days late.

Roadmap — not available yet

This page describes planned work, not shipped software. It is here so you can see where Bastle is heading before you commit — everything without this label is available today.

What is Alerts?

Alerts is a planned Bastle feature for watching revenue metrics and notifying you when something moves unusually — a churn spike, a jump in failed payments, an expansion swing — with the explanation attached rather than just the number. It is not available yet. What does ship today is the raw material: signed outbound webhooks on every billing event, scheduled email digests, and anomaly detection available to agents through the MCP server.

Roadmap

What Alerts will be

A managed watch layer over your metrics: thresholds you set explicitly, plus anomaly detection that learns your normal weekly rhythm so a Monday spike does not fire every Monday. Notifications will route to email, Slack or a webhook, and will carry the diagnosis rather than only the number, because an alert that says MRR fell by four per cent and stops there just moves the investigation to a worse time of day.

  • Threshold alerts and anomaly detection on any metric
  • Routing to email, Slack or your own endpoint, with snoozing and grouping
  • The explanation attached: which customers, which movement, which segment

Today

What ships now instead

You do not have to wait to be told about a failed payment. Bastle already emits signed outbound webhooks for every meaningful billing event, which is enough to build exactly the notification you want in Slack or your own system — and unlike several competitors, which offer no outbound webhooks at all, that path is open today.

  • Webhooks for charge failures, cancellations, trial conversions and dunning outcomes
  • Signed envelopes with automatic retries, so a brief outage does not lose the event
  • Scheduled daily, weekly or monthly email digests with metric changes and goal progress

Today

Anomaly detection is already callable

The detection logic that will sit behind Alerts is available now as an MCP tool, so an agent can be scheduled to check for unusual movement and report it wherever you want. It is a manual assembly job rather than a product feature, but the capability is real and you can use it before the interface exists.

  • Anomaly detection exposed as an agent tool through the MCP server
  • Combine with Ask to get the explanation alongside the detection
  • Same metric engine, so a detected anomaly matches what the dashboard shows

Why did MRR drop last month?

MRR fell $4,180 (−3.1%) in March. Almost all of it is contraction, not cancellations: 31 Scale customers downgraded to Growth after the annual renewal window opened.

Status

Where this actually stands

Alerts as a managed feature — a configuration screen, routing, snoozing, alert history — is not built and has no date attached. It is listed here because it is genuinely planned and because pretending otherwise would be worse, not because it is nearly ready. Everything described under “today” above is live and usable now.

  • No alert configuration interface exists yet
  • Webhooks, digests and the anomaly-detection tool are available today
  • Shipping progress is posted in the changelog rather than announced in advance

Where this connects

Alerts reads the same normalised billing history as the rest of Bastle, so a change in one place shows up in the others without an export.

Keep going: see everything Bastle does, look up the maths behind any number in the metric glossary, or run a figure through the free calculators.

Practical questions are usually answered by the connector list, an honest comparison with the alternatives, or the same product framed for founders and for finance teams.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set up alerts today?

Not as a managed feature — there is no alert configuration screen and none of this page describes something you can switch on. You can get most of the practical value now by subscribing a webhook endpoint to the events you care about and routing them into Slack or your own tooling, and by turning on the scheduled email digest.

What notifications work right now?

Signed outbound webhooks covering customer, subscription, charge, refund, trial, dunning and import events, delivered with automatic retries; scheduled email digests daily, weekly or monthly with metric changes and goal progress; and anomaly detection callable as an MCP tool by an agent. Those are live today.

Why is anomaly detection harder than a threshold?

Because subscription metrics have structure that a fixed threshold cannot see. Failed payments cluster at month boundaries when annual renewals batch up, weekday and weekend signups differ predictably, and a business that is growing has a moving baseline. A threshold set tightly enough to catch a real problem fires constantly on normal variation, and one set loosely enough to stay quiet misses the problem. Useful detection has to model the rhythm first, which is why it is worth doing properly rather than shipping quickly.

Will alerts explain the cause or just report the number?

The intent is to attach the diagnosis. Bastle already decomposes any metric movement into new, expansion, reactivation, contraction and churn and can identify the customers behind each, so an alert should be able to say that revenue churn doubled because eleven enterprise accounts downgraded after a renewal window, rather than only that revenue churn doubled.

Will Alerts cost extra when it ships?

No. Bastle is free while in beta and there is no add-on pricing, so features arrive as part of the product rather than as an upsell. Anything that changes about pricing after beta will be announced clearly and well in advance.

Start with what already ships.

Alerts is still on the roadmap. Everything else — metrics, Ask, dunning, cancellation insights and forecasting — is live today and free while Bastle is in beta.
