What is Data Rooms?

Data Rooms are hosted, access-controlled pages where you compose live metric blocks, charts, documents and commentary into something an investor or acquirer can actually read. The metrics are current every time the room is opened, access is gated by email with an allowlist you control, and viewer analytics show which sections were read and which files were opened.

Rooms are gated by email. Require an address before anything renders, restrict access to an allowlist so only invited people get through, and see rejected attempts rather than wondering whether a link leaked. Every room has its own link and its own access rules.

Frequently asked questions

What is a data room used for?

Traditionally it is the controlled document repository used during fundraising or an acquisition, where a buyer reviews financials and contracts under access control. Bastle's version keeps the access control and adds live metrics, so instead of a folder of exported PDFs that were accurate on the day they were generated, the reader gets figures that are current whenever they open the page, with the documents alongside them.

Do viewers need a Bastle account?

No. A viewer opens the link, enters their email at the gate, and reads the room. If you have restricted the room to an allowlist, only the addresses you invited get through and other attempts are recorded and rejected. Nobody has to create an account or install anything.

Are the metrics in a room really live?

Yes. Metric and chart blocks read from the same calculation engine your internal dashboards use, applying the same workspace definitions, and they recalculate when the room is viewed. There is no export step and no separate copy of the data to keep in sync, which also means there is no way for the room to quietly disagree with your own reporting.

Can I see who has viewed a room?

Yes. Each session records the email captured at the gate, entry and exit, engagement time, which blocks were viewed and for how long, which files were previewed or downloaded and which links were clicked. This is intended for knowing whether your update was read and what drew attention, and viewers pass the email gate knowingly.

How do I revoke access?

Remove the address from the allowlist or disable the room, and the link stops working immediately. Rooms are independent of each other, so closing one diligence process does not affect the board room or the advisor dashboard you are also sharing.

What is the difference between a room and a shared dashboard?

A shared dashboard is a single link to one set of live metrics with no structure around it — quick to set up, right for an advisor or a public metrics page. A room is an authored page: sections, commentary, documents, folders and multiple metric blocks, with the email gate and per-visitor analytics. Use the dashboard for a number, the room for a narrative.
